The new Mercedes GLC with EQ has finally been revealed with ultra fast charging and a huge 39.1 inch infotainment system
Right so lets start with the part everyone is talking about. The Interior. Following the footsteps of the Mercedes CLA with EQ Mercedes has given the new GLC the next step in dashboard design with 1 single screen stretching the width of the dashboard measuring in 39.1 inches. It is huge and personally for me does make the car feel like it hasn't been designed but it does make this car feel very premium and futuristic. We also get a lot of chrome finishes as well as a lot of leather. We also get some physical buttons and these comfy seats too.
Sitting in the back is quite good because of the extended wheel base and the boot space is also quite decent at 570 litres with the seats up and with the seats down this increases to 1,740 litres. You also get a front boot on this which is quite big at 128 litres. It is also very easy to open by just pressing the small Mercedes Logo. Mercedes is one of the first manufacturers to give this feature to an electric car and i welcome it with opening arms as it makes getting into the front boot so much easier and make it much more usable too.
Moving outside on the new GLC and it is a similar size to the current ICE GLC but the wheelbase has been extended even further giving even more room on the inside. The front part of the car is dominated by this big Mercedes grill that takes inspiration from the older classical Mercedes cars. it does look imposing but it also works too. I do wish it had the Mercedes stars though and not a blocky design but it does look very smart at night especially with its lighting sequence. The headlights look similar to the current GLC but now have the Mercedes star in them like the CLA. Moving round to the side and it looks like a typical Mercedes GLC apart from some flush door handles. Round the back and we get this minimalistic design with this black bar that houses the double Mercedes Star and a bit of a light bar. it does feel a bit like the old EQC which i do like. The bumper design is quite aggressive and almost AMG like as to is the rear spoiler.
So, the new Mercedes GLC with EQ is one of the first cars to be based on the MB.EQ platform. This gives the car an 800v architecture as well as the 2 speed transmission and air suspension from the Mercedes EQS. The battery pack is 94 kWh in size which is good for 435 miles of range. This isn't as good as the recently revealed BMW iX3 as to is the charging speeds at 330kW. You will also need a converter to use most of the UK chargers as the GLC isn't compatible with 400V charging network.
From launch the GLC will only get 1 variant which is the GLC400 4Matic. this is the sportiest model before an AMG version and this uses a dual motor setup with 482 bhp. Performance figures haven't been announced yet however neither has the prices.
We do have news though about what's coming next. The Mercedes C Class with EQ technology is only about 6 months away which will not look the same as the GLC or even the current C Class. A few years later there will also be the E Class EQ and GLE EQ too which will be the direct replacement to the discontinued EQE Saloon and EQE SUV.
