This is the new Tesla Model Y Facelift

The Tesla Model Y Facelift has arrived with Cybertruck looks and a boot in range.

Codenamed 'Juniper' throughout development the new Tesla Model Y Facelift is very important for tesla considering over 1.2 million has been sold worldwide.

Rather than borrow its looks from the closely related Tesla Model 3 Facelift the new Model Y facelift houses a new minimalistic lightbar very similar to the Cybertruck and Cybercab. The bumper is also minimalistic with a bigger central air vent and a new set of split headlights. We also get a new bonnet that stretches all the way to the front of the car completing the look at the front.

Round the back we get a completely different design something we haven't seen on a Tesla before. To start with we the outline of the old style taillight but we not get a reflective bar connecting the taillights with a hidden light bar reflecting the light onto this bar. The number plate has also moved from the boot onto the bumper giving it an interesting and in my opinion too plain look.

5 exterior colours should be offered with the Tesla Model Y. This includes Pearl White, Stealth Grey, Quicksilver, Ultra Red and a new colour called 'Glacier Blue' but we will have to wait and see what the UK will get. On terms of wheels, we have seen test cars run on 20 inch 'induction' wheels but 20 inch 'Helix' wheels are the only ones on offer at the moment in other markets.

Moving inside and we get a set of similar updates as the new Model 3 Facelift had. To start with we get a new steering wheel the same as the Model 3 and the gear selector stalk has moved from the steering column onto the touchscreen. What is interesting though is that we keep the indicator stalk unlike the Model 3 so turning should be much easier than before. We also get a slightly different centre console and a new set of front seats which are now ventilated. We also get a slightly different door card design and now ambient lighting. In the back we also get a touchscreen for the rear occupants too.

The range of the Model Y has also increased because of a better drag coefficient, down from 0.23 to 0.22. There should be 2 versions available in the UK and this will be 'Rear-Wheel Drive' and 'Long Range All-Wheel Drive'. Figures have only been announced for the 'Long Range All-Wheel Drive' model and that is 342 miles which is 11 more than the previous figures. Performance figures are also expected to have improved to with the 'Long Range All-Wheel Drive' variant having a 4.3 second 0-62 time down from 4.8 seconds.

Final changes include a re-tweaked suspension system offering a smoother and quieter ride.

Prices have not been announced for the UK market yet but if the Tesla Model 3 Facelift has anything to go by then the Model Y facelift could actually drop in value to an estimate of £42,000.
