The new MINI Cooper 5-Door has been revealed. To start with it is based on the previous MINI Hatch 5-Door but has been heavily updated to fit in line with the new Cooper 3-Door and Cooper Electric. If you want an electric version then this wont do for you as this is the last internal combustion engined only MINI. The next best electric version would be the MINI Aceman.
So Whats different over the outgoing MINI Hatch 5-Door. Well you get all new styling borrowed from the 3 Door. This includes new grill and headlight designs as well as a minimalistic look compared to the older model. This can be seen with the removal of the bonnet vent and the side indicators being moved to the wing mirrors. Round the back and we get the same triangle lights as the 3-Door version giving it a unique look.
Moving inside the new MINI Cooper 5-Door and again just like the 3-Door we get the same interior with the new MINI Operating System 9 with the "Hey Mini" voice assistant and a little dog named Spike. You also now get Android Auto and Apple Car Play. We also get the projector lights on the dashboard and a new seat and steering wheel design making the interior feel more premium and more modern. The biggest difference is when you get in the back as there is more legroom than the 5-Door and there is also extra doors too. the materials are still also quite premium too. As for the boot you get 275 litres of space which is up from the 210 litres in the 3-Door and is very similar to the old Hatch 5-Door. Folding the seats down and you get 925 litres.
The engine lineup will copy the regular 3-Door with the Cooper C getting a 1.5 litre with 154 bhp and a 0-62 mph time of just 8 seconds. the top version for now is the Cooper S and this gets a 2 litre engine producing 201 bhp which reduces the 0-62 time down to 6.8 seconds. All MINI Cooper 5-Doors are automatic only which is a shame but they are moving with the times. Also new on this MINI is that there are 7 driving modes for you to choose from, each giving you a different theme on the infotainment system.
The order books for the new MINI Hatch 5-Door are open now with a starting price of £24,050 for the Cooper C and £28,450 for the Cooper S. This is around £900 above the 3-Door. Each model is also available with the usual Classic, Exclusive and Sport flavours too.
