The wraps are finally off the new Mercedes C Class with EQ Technology with interesting stats.

The Mercedes next generation electric vehicles is vast growing stretching from the small CLA to the G-Class but they have finally revealed its middle sibling, the C Class.

Despite being called C-Class it shares nothing with its combustion engine counterpart and even though it is an all new car there is already a lot of competition against it with the likes of the BMW i3 and the Lexus ES as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and upcoming Audi A4 E-Tron. To help with this potential issue, Mercedes has used the all new MB.EA platform which sits under the brilliant GLC with EQ.

So because of all of this, apparently this is the sportiest C-Class ever made but unfortunately if you wanted more space then you are out of luck as there wont be an estate version.

So, if we are going to compare the C-Class EQ with the BMW i3 then lets talk about the important facts. to start with the range isn't as good as the EQS's 574 mile range at only 472 miles but this is still very useable even though it is less than the i3. This setup does use a dual motor setup though with a 94.5 kWh battery pack which is smaller than the i3's. There is going to be a single motor version which will increase the range to 497 miles which is better. Like most other new electric cars this one uses the 800v architecture which means it can get 198 miles of charge in just 10 minutes if you find an 330 kW fast charger. You can also get an optional DC Converter which lets you charge at 400v chargers too, something the smaller CLA cant do. 0-62 is pretty good at 4.1 seconds too and it has a very comfortable ride with its 4 link front axle and multi link rear.

In terms of design it borrows most of its styling cues from the GLC brother. This includes the overall headlight shape and special light up grill and Mercedes Star LED Daytime Running Light that every car is having. The rear end design is again similar to the GLC with its big bar and Mercedes logo although it doesn't have the bar connecting it to the Mercedes star which is a bit of a shame. Wheel designs are typical Mercedes too and you also get some pop out door handles which is quite nice. In terms of size it is 9.7 centimeters longer than the normal C Class and headroom is quoted to be like an S Class so comfort in the back will be very good especially with its standard fit panoramic sun roof.

On the inside it is the same story as the GLC interior with its HyperScreen setup which is this huge single screen covering the instrument cluster, infotainment system and passenger screen. You also get the usual Mercedes steering wheel as well as cool looking air vents, 2 wireless charging pads which are vented and a few physical buttons. You also get some comfortable seats with massaging functions, seat ventilated and even speakers to create 4D sound.

Pricing of the Mercedes C Class EQ hasn't been announced yet but we expect it to start around the mid £50,000 mark with cheaper versions coming later in the year to drop it below the £50,000 mark which isn't too bad comparing it to the combustion C-Class with equipment levels and performance.
