Mazda has released a spiritual successor to the Mazda 6, The Mazda 6e. Based on the Chinese EZ-6, it is not planned to arrive to the UK till 2026 which is down to the swap from left hand drive to right hand drive. It will join the Mazda Lineup as their second electric car alongside the MX-30.
Sitting in at 4,921 mm long and 1,890mm wide it is larger than the Tesla Model 3 and wider than the Hyundai Ioniq 6. It should cost around the £40,000 mark when it does arrive to the UK.
There will be 2 versions of the 6e when it does go on sale. There will be a standard car which will get a 68.8 kWh battery pack with a WLTP approved 297 miles of range. Power should be about 254 bhp with a rear mounted motor and a 7.6 second 0-62 time. The next version will be a long range version with an 80 kWh battery pack giving the 6e a 342 mile range. Because of the bigger battery the bhp is slightly less at 241 bhp but the 0-62 time is still 7.8 seconds.
The design of the Mazda 6e is almost identical to the EZ-6 all by the badging. this means we get a set of striking LED Daytime Running Lights that are connected to a light up grill giving it a luxurious look. The headlights are also hidden in the grill too giving it an almost concept look. Along the side we get a set of flush door handles and a set of 19 inch alloy wheels to go with the car. Around the back we get a light bar with a set of circular Mazda style taillights giving it a sporty look.
Moving inside and it is a huge departure to the regular Mazda interiors we have seen. We get a simple but again luxorious setup with a 14.6 inch touchscreen and a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster. We also get minimal buttons around the cabin and a column mounted gear shiftier that is taken from an older Mercedes.
Boot space is qutie small at 330 litres but you do get a 70 litre front boot which is perfect for cables.
Overall then a decent package and a sign of what future Mazda's could be like.
