Can this facelift on the Hyundai i20 keep it fresh enough to consider it against its main rivals?
Exterior – Front
So, lets start with the front and we do get a new design that does make this car look lower and more aggressive than before. to start with we get the same set of LED headlights as before, but they now have a new lower grill connected to them with a new mesh pattern and a gloss black strip either side connecting the grill to the headlight. We also get a new bumper with a much wider central air vent and bigger side vents.
Exterior – Side
moving round to the side we don’t get many changes apart from some new wheel options and of course the usual colour options too.
Exterior – Rear
Moving round to the back and the changes continue we get a new rear bumper which is much more aggressive again using this gloss black and a silver fake splitter. We also get 2 fake side vents too. The taillights are the same striking ones as before with a connected red strip. Overall, this car does look more aggressive and sportier as before it was more elegant, and it didn’t really suit the car that well. Let’s have a look and the engine options that you can have with the new i20 Facelift.
Car and engine specs and price
So, the new Hyundai i20 facelift only has 1 engine option and to be honest it is the best engine that you could have. It is a 1.0 litre turbo engine with 98 bhp. it can either be had with a 6-speed manual or a dual clutch 7 speed automatic. It can do 0-62 in 10.4 seconds which isn’t that bad. Torque is decent too at 172 Nm. Overall, a good engine then. The price of the new Hyundai i20 starts at £20,770. Let’s have a look at the interior.
Interior – Design
Moving inside the new i20 facelift and we don’t get any changes. We get the same 4 spoke steering wheel that feels a bit odd in a supermini. We also get the same infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. We also get the same controls as before and generally the same setup. To be honest it is a nice place to be although the seats aren’t that supportive and there are cheaper plastics lower down but then that is to be expected on this type of car. Let’s have a look at the rear seats.
Practicality
So, getting into the back and you will be surprised by the amount of space that it has to offer. It is class leading with a good amount of legroom and headroom. Way more than its rivals and you could easily fit 4 6 footers in which is a great achievement for such a small car.
Boot Size
To go with it class leading rear passenger space, opening the boot to the Hyundai i20 and you will be welcomed with a class leading 352 litres of boot space. better than the Corsa and 208 that I reviewed. Only the Volkswagen Polo can get close with 351 litres but if you fold the seats, the i20 beats the polo by 40 litres with a 1,165-litre boot.
Summary
So, the Hyundai i20. If I recall your minds to a few videos ago to the i10 facelift I said that that was the best city car that you could buy. Well, I think that Hyundai have done it again with the i20. Personally, I think this is the best supermini you can buy. It is small, it has good looks and class leading practicality all for a good price. What more do you want.
