Tesla keep up with the new electric game with the updated Model 3 Refresh?

Exterior – Front

So, Citroen’s designs of late have been very interesting from the air bumps with the Citroen C4 Cactus to the split taillights of the previous generation C3. This one however feels French but boring and almost safe. We get a set of slim headlights with a lower LED Daytime running light as well as one above and on the inner part of the headlight. Connecting these headlights is a black bar with the new Citroen logo. In the middle of the front, we get a very slim air vent and a fairly big lower central air vent with a Citroen style mesh pattern which I quite like. We do have some side vents which are functional, but the overall design is easier on the eye than the previous C3.

Exterior – Side

Moving round to the side and comparing the previous Citroen this one is quite boring. We don’t get any air bumps along the side and the only plastic we get is some extended wheel arches and lower sill. We get some gloss black door handles which fit well with the black roof and door mirror caps and we also get some roof rails as well as another colour line that can be changeable. We also get some cool wheel designs which do look very modern.

Exterior – Rear

Moving round to the back and we get a similar design as the front of the car. we get a set of cool and modern looking taillights that mimic the front headlights, and these are connected with a black bar with the new Citroen logo in the middle of it. Lower down on the bumper we get some black and silver cladding giving it an off roader look similar to what the old C3 had which is a nice touch. Right, lets have a look and see what battery and motor options as well as engine and gearbox options you can have with the new Citroen e-C3.

Car and engine specs and price

So, the Citroen e-C3 and the Citroen C3 has 1 battery option and 1 engine option. Lets start with the battery option first. This has a 111 bhp electric motor connected with a 44-kWh battery pack giving a range of about 199 miles which wasn’t the best back in 2020 but not it isn’t that great but it can get you from London to Sheffield on a single charge. This is where charging at home will be handy and this is where you would have another car to take over the heavier stuff for example longer journeys. 0-62 is delt within 10.4 seconds which is about average really. It is also front wheel drive too. for the petrol model you get a 1.2 litre Turbo with 99 bhp. this is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox and power is sent to the front wheels. 0-62 time is delt within 10.6 seconds which isn’t too bad. The price of the Citroen C3 starts at £17,990 which isn’t that bad considering it is a new car when most prices are getting close to or over £20,000 now a days for a small car like this. Where this car really shines though is the e-C3 price which starts at just £21,990. This makes it one of the cheaper electric cars. Right, lets have a look at the interior.

Interior – Design

So, climbing inside the new Citroen e-C3 and it is very different to the old model. To start with the dashboard has been separated in 3 parts. We get this part up above which has a black panel, and this houses the digital instrument cluster which acts like a heads-up display. Basically, it projects onto this black bar which is quite clever and similar to what it will be like in the next 3 series. The next level down is where your infotainment system lies. This is an all-new system which works well but it isn’t as good as the ones in the main cars that the Stellantis group sells. This level also houses your air vents at the side too. on the lower part is a cloth material which acts a bit like a shelf, and this is where your central air vents are. In front of the driver, we get the new Stellantis indicator stalks which are better than before and we also get an all-new steering wheel design that is small like what Peugeot has. It is ok and easy to use, and it does look quite modern, but it will take a while to get used to for some people. In the middle of the dashboard, we get some physical climate control buttons which is a first for a very long time for Citroen and its nice to have them back. The centre console is Ok looking, but it does have some piano black which can get scratched very easily. We do get a little toggle selector for the gear selector and an electronic parking brake as well as some storage which is good. We also get a set of very comfy seats too which is also a bonus. Right, lets have a look and see what the rear seats are like.

Practicality

So, getting into the back of the new e-C3 and space isn’t that bad. We get a decent amount of legroom and headroom is quite good considering the size of the ca. there are some cheap plastics in the back but that is to be expected. We do get some storage in the back though as well as a little pocket for your phone as well as 2 USB C ports in the back which is quite handy. Right, lets have a look as see what the boot space is like.

Boot Size

So, opening the boot and you are welcomed to 310 litres of space with the seats up which is ok but not as good as its rivals but what makes it worse is that you get quite a big load lip which is a shame. Folding the seats down and you get 992 litres, but you also get a big hump to lift things over.

Summary

So, in summary then what do I think of the new Citroen e-C3. Well, the looks aren’t as in your face as before but that may be a good thing as it will help sell it. The interior is different, and it will take a while to get used too. practicality wise it is ok enough and you will get used to the load lip, but it could have easily been fixed with a false floor even if it was just an options. The electric range is not as good as some people would like though, but this does help the lower price tag. If you are looking at an electric car though then there are some great deals on new cars that have been heavily discounted. Even some by £9,000 to £11,000. If you can find them then they would be the best ones to go for as they are better in every way. Don’t exclude this from your list though is it is a decent little car and if you want a quirky new car that is unique then this may be the one for you. Especially if you do short town journeys.
