Is this the ultimate and most affordable Skoda?

Exterior – Front

So, the styling of the new Skoda is similar to the old design but has gone slightly more up market. To start with we now get a split headlight design but more on that in the moment. Up top we get this black bar which houses all the sensors and radars and to the edges of it they have this cool LED Daytime running light design to it which I like. The central air vent is also a decent size but there is a lot of black plastic which does look cool but also quite cheap too. to the side we get the main headlight unit as well as some functional side vents and up top the Skoda badge has been replaced by the Skoda lettering which I do quite like. Overall then the design isn’t that bad.

Exterior – Side

So, moving round to the side of the Elroq and you might be able to notice something. So, the front wings and front doors are taken straight from the bigger Enyaq. This means the front half is all Enyaq. But the rear half is all new. We do get some sharp creases as well as more black plastic cladding around the wheel arch and lower sill and it does look quite sporty looking. The wheel designs are also decent too although most of them have clip on trims that can be removed.

Exterior – Rear

Moving round to the back and this is where I wish Skoda could have done more. So, at the front we get a new design language but round back it is just the same old Skoda design. We get these cool looking taillights that have these segments that make the boot opening look hidden at night, but the overall design does start to feel a bit outdated. Compared to the front. The boot opening does look modern, but the bumper is a big plain looking but does the job. I do wish it could have matched the same design as the front, but this could have been done to keep the costs down and to follow in the Enyaq footsteps as that has just had a facelift to look very similar. Anyway, lets have a look and see what battery and motor options you can have with the new Skoda Elroq.

Car and engine specs and price

So, for the Skoda Elroq, there are 4 different versions of battery and motor options you can have. Lets start with the first one. This uses a 170 bhp rear mounted motor giving the Elroq rear wheel drive. This uses a 55-kWh battery pack giving it a 232-mile range which isn’t the best. It can do 0 to 62 in 9 seconds though which isn’t that bad. The next version would be the best base model to go for and this has a 204 bhp rear mounted motor giving the Elroq rear wheel drive. It also has a bigger battery pack at 63 kWh, and this increases the range to 265 miles which is better. 0-62 is also down to 8 seconds. The final version uses a 286 bhp rear mounted motor giving it rear wheel drive and this uses an 82-kWh battery pack and a 360 mile of range. This reduces the 0-62 time even further to 6.6 seconds which is quite good. The final version is the vRS version and this uses a dual motor setup with 335 bhp. this is the same one that is found in the Enyaq surprise surprise. It also uses the same 82 kWh battery pack, and it can do 0-62 in 5.4 seconds which is the quickest vRS car ever. It also has 4-wheel drive too. the price of the new Skoda Elroq starts at £29,660 which is quite good, and I can forgive its low range for that model. It does really make it competitive. Right, lets have a look at the interior and see what that is like.

Interior – Design

So, climbing inside the new Skoda Elroq and it doesn’t feel very new to be honest. Again, this is because the front half is based on the Enyaq and so is the interior for the same matter. To start with we get a lot of fabric on the dashboard which is soft to the touch and quite premium looking. You also get a small digital instrument cluster in front of the driver which I quite like, and it is easy to use. The infotainment system is the latest MiB 4 software which is the same as the Volkswagen ones. Lower down we get some premium materials as well as some shortcut buttons. The centre console is also quite premium, and it does have a few storage areas, and I also like the fact it has a gear shifter from the Audi E-Tron GT RS. The seats are also comfy yet supportive but what I don’t like is the steering wheel. Now when this steering wheel came out on the Octavia back in 2019 it looked cool and futuristic with it being a 2 spoke but look like a 3 spoke. Now though they have ruined it in my opinion by removing the Skoda badge and but the Skoda lettering. This makes the steering wheel look cheap and plasticky which I don’t like. It looks like the Dacia steering wheel did. This is a big shame as I do like the overall design of the steering wheel and I hope they bring the logo back soon or change the design, so it doesn’t look so cheap. Any with my rant over lets have a look and see what the rear seats are like.

Practicality

So, getting into the back seats and practicality wise it is quite good still considering it is smaller than the Enyaq. You get a lot of legroom and even head room. You also get a lot of storage in in the middle a removable storage box. You also get an arm rest and air vents and even some phone pockets. You can also sit 3 in the back in comfort too which is nice. Right, lets have a look and see what the boot is like.

Boot Size

So, opening the boot to the Elroq and this is where we can see the main difference compared to the Enyaq. With the seats up the Skoda Elroq gets 470 litres of boot space. this is more than the Kia EV3 but less than the Renault Scenic, but you can fit the same in the Elroq because of the shape of the boot. It is also less than the Enyaq at 585 litres.  Folding the seats down this increases to 1,580 litres compared to the Enyaq with 1,710 litres.

Summary

So, in summary then what do I think of the new Skoda Elroq. Well, the design at the front is much more modern and still Skoda like but it just feels like that Skoda didn’t try enough on the side and rear considering they copied the bigger car. the interior is ok but again I would have liked to of seen the changes the Kodiaq had with the 3 dials to help make it easier to live with. Practicality is good though and for the type of car you are getting you could almost forgive the issues that I have with it. I will admit though the petrol Skoda’s do look better though.
