Does this facelift improve on the already great recipe from Kia?
Exterior – Front
So, the design at the front has changed quite a bit. To start with these headlights, have an all-new design to them. like what the new Picanto, Sorrento and EV9 has but on this they have a sportier look to them. the central grill is also different and now incorporates a light bar in it. The lower central air vent has a new mesh pattern in it and the side vents have a sportier more modern look to it. Overall then it is a new look which will take time to grow on people, but it definitely looks sporty and premium as well as unique.
Exterior – Side
Moving round to the side and we don’t get anything new apart from some new more stylish wheel choices and some new colour options. You still get this black swoop along the side as well as some flush door handles and sporty side mirrors.
Exterior – Rear
Moving round to the back and we get a new taillight design and a new light bar design with the same language as other new Kia’s/ the lower bumper is also new and has been resculpted to aid aerodynamics. The fake side vents are also new and so is the lower fog light. The overall design is modern and unique like it was before, but it has been perfected in areas that most people wont actually know. Lets have a look at what battery and motor options you can have with the new Kia EV6.
Car and engine specs and price
So, one main change for the Kia EV6 is the new battery size. The battery has increased from 77kWh to 84kWh. This has been done by having more condensed batteries, but it also means the battery pack is about 10 kg lighter than before. So, lets start with the base model. This is a single motor rear wheel drive unit with 225 bhp. this can do 0-62 within 7.3 seconds. It also has an electric only range of 361 miles which is up by just under 40 miles with thanks to the new battery. The next version is the AWD version. This has a dual motor setup with 320 bhp. This can do 0-62 within 5.3 seconds which is very good. The range is reduced to about 339 miles for the GT-Line version or 324 miles for the GT-Line S version. There will be the top of the range GT version coming out early 2025 so keep an eye out for that as that will have the same updates including looks and battery increase as the normal EV6 Facelift. that car will be very quick. The price of the new Kia EV6 Facelift starts at £45,575. Let’s have a look at the interior and see whats new.
Interior – Design
So, climbing inside the new Kia EV6 Facelift and there are some decent changes. to start with we get a new steering wheel design. It is now 3 spoke and has premium leather options as well as a 2 tone options which I quite like. It is also has a flat top and bottom now too. once you turn the EV6 on you will also notice the software has been updated to the latest Kia infotainment system. It is easy to use and is very quick just like the previous software. The instrument cluster also has newer graphics and makes the interior look more modern. The surround is also squarer now too and there is now fingerprint recognition so a user can easily sign in to the car. There is also a better sound system and ambient lighting. The centre console also has some new materials and so does the seats. It overall feels more premium than before which is good although the pre facelift wasn’t in any way not premium. let’s have a look and see what it is like in the back.
Practicality
So, moving in the back of the new Kia EV6 facelift and just like before you will be shocked by how much legroom there actually is. Headroom isn’t the best because of the sloping roof. You do get an arm rest though, USB C ports in the front seats as well as some air vents and heated seats. You can also recline the seats if you wanted to. Right lets have a look in the boot to see what it is like.
Boot Size
So, opening the boot to the Kia EV6 and you get the same 490 litres of boot space which is decent enough and folding the rear seats down this increases to 1,300 litres. You also get a ski hatch for long items if you don’t want to fold down the rear seats. There is also a front boot too which is 52 litres in size just like before and just like before if you go for the all-wheel drive version this reduces 20 litres, but this is still enough for charging cables.
Summary
So, in summary then the Kia EV6 was always a great car and how can you improve on a great car. This is the exact example here. Kia have only done changes to keep it looking fresh in the new Kia lineup and has updated parts of the car to improve its usability and day to day life. So, what if you have the pre facelift version. Well, if you want to upgrade it then there is no reason why you shouldn’t. there are also enough changes to make it worthwhile to upgrade too with the added range and new infotainment system. Really this could be the best sporty premium Kia for sale now.
