the updated enough to prove that the Citroen C4 still has what it takes against its rivals?
Exterior – Front
So, lets start with the style at the front as it is a bit odd. Personally, I can see a bit of Peugeot 3008 design with the very slim LED headlights but instead of the tiger claw we get 4 led light bars. 1 above the headlight, 2 just below the headlight and another even lower. Now connecting the headlights is a fake grill and in the middle of it is the new Citroen logo. We do get a middle air vent which makes this car look like it has a Mustache. Lower down we get a decent looking central air vent and some silver trim as well as some mat black cladding to give it an off roader look. We also get a new bonnet which is smoother than before too.
Exterior – Side
Moving round to the side and we of course get some new colour and some very cool wheel options which is usual in any facelift, but Citroen has decided to go further and have replaced the lower air bumps with a plain mat black bit of plastic. Now personally I think this loses its unique characteristic, but it does fit better into the model range that is to come. We also get some matt black cladding around the wheel arches too.
Exterior – Rear
Moving round to the back and we do get some big changes which I do almost like. So, the X style taillights have gone and have been replaced with a new set with a lot of lines. Now I do like this design as it does make the rear end look wider than what it is. I just wish it didn’t look like they were placed on top of an old design. The outer parts are fine but take the inner parts for example. You can see they have just been added as an after though and I do think they will look better if the light lenses carry on into the boot opening to give it a more unique design. It would also give it a more finished look. Anyway, rant over, moving on and the old Citroen logo has been replaced with the new Citroen font lettering which look minimalistic. The bumper is the same as before though, but I am ok with that. Right, lets have a look and see what engine and gearbox options you can have with the new Citroen C4 as well as what battery and motor options you can have with the new Citroen e-C4.
Car and engine specs and price
So, the engine range on the new Citroen C4 Facelift consists of a petrol engine, a mild hybrid petrol engine and an electric option. Lets start with the Petrol engine first. This is the usual 1.2 litre turbo with 128 bhp. it can do 0-62 within 9.4 seconds and power is sent to the front wheels through an 8 speed Automatic gearbox. The next engine is the mild hybrid engine. This uses a 1.2 litre turbo and a small electric motor making a combined output of 134 bhp. this can do 0-62 within 8 seconds and the power is sent to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The final option is the electric model. Now there are 2 versions to pick from. Lets start with the smaller one. This has a 134 bhp electric motor and a 50-kWh battery pack giving a total range of about 219 miles which isn’t the best, but it isn’t that bad either. 0-62 time is delt within 9.7 seconds which again isn’t that bad and would be a good model if you want a cheaper option for an electric car. The next version uses a more powerful 154 bhp electric motor with a bigger 54 kWh battery pack delivering a better 254 miles of range. 0-62 is a bit quicker at 9.3 seconds and this is because of the heaver battery pack. The price of the new Citroen C4 Facelift starts at £22,295 and for the electric e-C4 model it starts at £26,295. Right, lets have a look at the interior.
Interior – Design
So, climbing inside the new Citroen C4 Facelift and as facelifts go for the interior, it is quite underwhelming. So, we get a new airbag cover for the steering wheel with the new logo and some new more plush materials inside as well as some even comfier seats but apart from that, that is it. The infotainment system is the new version but that was updated a few years ago when it originally came out. This is the usual Stellantis infotainment system, and it does work quite well. We do get a digital instrument cluster and that has changed slightly as it doesn’t light up behind it anymore which is a shame. We do get a heads up display though and some physical climate control buttons which is nice. The overall quality is a bit mixed because whilst we do get some nice materials, there is a lot of hard plastic still. Practicality isn’t the best either. right, lets have a look and see what the rear seats is like.
Practicality
So, getting into the back of the new Citroen C4 Facelift and it is business as usual. We get some very comfortable seats with a decent amount of legroom and headroom. We also get some creature comforts like and arm rest, air vents and some USB C ports. We also get a bit of colour in the back too which is nice. Sadly, though there is still some hard plastics which does make this car feel cheaper. It isn’t a bad place to be though for a family car and you can sit 3 people in the back quite easily because there isn’t much of a hump in the floor. Lets have a look in the boot.
Boot Size
So, opening the boot to the new Citroen C4 Facelift and you are welcomed with 380 litres of boot space. Now this is a decent size considering it is rivalling the Volkswagen Golf but it is considerably less than its sister car the Peugeot 2008. This is because of the sloping roof. If you fold the rear seats down however this increases to 1,250 litres.
Summary
So, in summary then what do I think of the new Citroen C4 Facelift. Well, I think it looks more unique and stylish than before. the interior quality is decent enough considering the price and the updated powertrains make it easier to live with if you have the Electric option. Overall then it is a decent car and it does keep it relevant in todays market. It would be worth the upgrade from the pre facelift especially if you have an early model as this will have a huge amount of updates over that model.
