New 2024 Porsche Tycan Facelift Review


Is the Porsche Tycan still the best electric super saloon after the updates it has received?


Exterior – Front

So, also, start with the styling at the front of the new Tycan facelift and whilst it looks very similar than before, the tweaks that have been made have been streamlined to make it look more modern but also much sleeker in my opinion. To start with the headlights have had a little restyle to fit the housing better and this makes the car more aerodynamic. The bumper is also different too as the side vents now don’t connect to the headlights on some models. This makes the front end look more minimalistic but also sportier too. the lower central air vent is also slightly different too. the overall style though does feel smoother and sleeker and like a proper modern Porsche


Exterior – Side

Moving round to the side of the Tycan and we get no changes to the bodywork, but we do get a new set of wheel options as well as new paint colour options. A standard facelift then.


Exterior – Rear

Moving round to the back and unlike the front where there were big changes, the rear has hardly any changes. The bumper is the same as before which is fine by me, and the taillights and bar is the same as before although you can opt for the Porsche lettering to be lit up on some models and markets where the law allows it. Right, let’s have a look at the battery and motor options you can get with the new Porsche Tycan Facelift.


Car and engine specs and price

So, just like before there are different trim levels that relate to the amount of power you get with a Porsche. The range kicks off with the Tycan. This has a 400 bhp motor on the back axle making it rear wheel drive. 0-62 is delt within 4.8 seconds. You get a 97-kWh battery pack, and this gives you a range of about 350 miles on a good day. The next version is the Tycan 4S. this has 540 bhp but this time it is 4-wheel drive. This reduces the 0-62 time down to 3.7 seconds. Again, battery size is 97 kWh, and this gives you about 360 miles of range. The next version is the Tycan Turbo. This has 880 bhp and a 0-62 time of just 2.7 seconds. This is also 4-wheel drive and again battery size is 97 kWh, and the range is about 390 miles. The next version is the Tycan Turbo S. this increases the power to 948 bhp with a top speed of 162 mph and a 0-62 time of 2.4 seconds. Just like the other models the battery size is 97 kWh and the range is about 390 miles. So, now we get to some new recently announced models. This is the Turbo GT and Turbo GT with Weissach Pack. Noe they both have 1,030 bhp and a 2.2 second 0-62 time. The normal GT has a 180 mph top speed whilst the Weissach pack gives you a whopping 190 mph top speed. Both a 4 wheel drive and both have the 97 kWh battery pack. Range is about 340 miles on both but you can guess that will decrease when you drive it on the track. That model is coming out later this year but what a car that will be


Interior – Design

So, getting inside the new Tycan and before we enter the car you know it’s a facelift as the Tycan comes with a new Porsche Active ride System which shoots the car up by 55 mm on the air springs to make getting in easier.  whilst there are no changes that are obvious to start with there are a few. One big change is the new graphics on the instrument cluster. The infotainment system is the same as before and is very easy to use. The climate control and other functions are located on a third screen lower down on the centre console, and this is actually fairly easy to use on the move as most of the controls stay where they are and you get haptic feedback so you know when you have pressed a function. You also get the same optional passenger screen too and the same low riding sports seats and sporty feeling steering wheel. The overall fit and finish is like any other Porsche, so you won’t be disappointed with it. Let’s have a look at the rear seats.


Practicality

So, for a near enough 5-meter car you would expect it to have plenty of legroom. In matter of fact though it isn’t as good as some of its rivals and the same can be said for the headroom because of the sloping roof. The sport turismo can improve on this though because of its higher roof line. You still get very nice materials still though and your own climate control system, air vets, USB C ports as well as an arm rest and heated seats. You also get these sculpted seats which look like the front seats and whilst they may seem cool at first, they aren’t the best seats, but they aren’t that bad. Let’s have a look at what the boot space is like.


Boot Size

So, opening the boot to the Tycan and to be honest for a supposedly spacious car it isn’t very spacious. With the seats up the boot space is at 407 litres which is smaller than a BMW i4 and not much bigger than the Volkswagen Golf but it does have a big opening and area so you can put large flat items in it. Its more of the height that reduces the size. Folding the seats down you get 1,212 litres which isn’t that bad but again I would have expected better. One important note though is that you do get a front boot which is 84 litres in size, and this can hold the charging cables which is great.


Summary

And the size of the boot brings me on to the summary. Why does one person buy a Porsche Tycan over its models. Well, it’s because it’s a Porsche. Whilst being electric it will have the typical Porsche looks, the Porsche handling and the proper Porsche feel. To be honest this may be the only electric car that you can buy that feels like an internal combustion engine but have better performance than one. So, does this beat its rivals then. Well yes of course it does but then it is slightly more expensive than its rivals too.
