New 2024 Peugeot E-3008 Review

Is the new Peugeot E-3008 better as an electric coupe?

Exterior – Front

So, the design of the new E-3008 is a bit of an odd one. It is a looker but not for a good reason in some areas. Take the headlights for example. For me they are too thin and look out of proportion on an SUV. On a hatchback or coupe, it may work but it doesn’t feel right. Also, the lion scratches on the front work on another Peugeot’s but on this one it feels out of place and like an afterthought. The grill isn’t bad and does work but it has been implemented better on another Peugeot’s. the lower central air vent and side vents are possibly the only good things on this car at the front.

Exterior – Side

So, moving round to the side and we get a coupe SUV style the 3008. Something we haven’t seen on this type of car before. we get some gloss black cladding round the wheel arches and down the lower side. We also get a lower crease too and the Peugeot shield. The wheel designs are also quite modern with the new Peugeot design language that suits this car and to be honest this is possibly the best angle of the car overall.

Exterior – Rear

So, moving round to the back and this is where things start to go downhill. Now I’m going to start with the new E-5008. That design works very well on that car. This car no something doesn’t work right. It looks too plain and minimalistic. We get this black bar connecting yet again some thin taillights that don’t suit it. We also get a gloss black bumper which looks ok, and that part is fine for me. Being a coupe SUV, we get some cat ears up above, but I must say that the Peugeot 408 does look better than this one. Right, lets have a look at what battery and motor options you can get with the E-3008.

Car and engine specs and price

So, the Peugeot E-3008 can be had in electric, petrol hybrid or petrol plug in hybrid. The petrol versions will be released later in the year with the 1.2 litre mild hybrid unit or the usual 1.6 plug in hybrid unit. The electric versions though are all new. This is because it is based on the new STLA Medium platform. This means you get 3 new electric models. Lets start with the first one. This has a 201 bhp motor with a 73 kWh battery pack. This has 327 miles of range and it is front wheel drive. 0-62 is delt within 8.8 seconds. The next version has slightly more power at 227 bhp but this has a much bigger battery pack at 98 kWh this promises more than 400 miles and this will arrive the second half of this year. this will be joined with a dual motor version giving the E-3008 4 wheel drive but also 316 bhp and a 0-62 time of just 6.4 seconds. The range does reduce to 235 miles though because it uses the smaller battery pack. The price of the new Peugeot E-3008 starts at £45,850 which isn’t that bad for the car you are getting. The petrol versions will be cheaper of course. Right lets have a look at the interior as I have quite a lot to say about it.

Interior – Design

So, climbing inside the new E-3008 and just like the outside going through 2 different designs since that language was introduced, the interior of the E-3008 is a newer design to the already new 308. To me this interior change just feels like they had money to spare as the interior of the 308 wasn’t a bad interior. Here however we get a curved panoramic single screen setup for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. This is a whole new setup which has never been seen on a Stellantis car which means that they have to make new software for it. The software is different to what we are used to from other new Stellantis cars, and it is ok to use but isn’t the best. You get this third digital screen for your shortcuts, and this now has 2 pages for your shortcuts which is a nice idea. We also get a new steering wheel which I hope we will see on other Peugeot cars as well as new indicator stalks. Those haven’t been updated for over 10 years if not longer. We get this recycled material all around the cabin and some cool ambient lighting which I do like and the driver does feel separated from the passengers which I do like also. Because of this though the storage compartments in the centre console are hard to access unless you are a passenger. The seats are also new and are comfortable but don’t have the best design from the back. Talking of the back, lets have a look at what the back seats are like.

Practicality

So, getting into the back and we do still get some premium materials from the front into the back and the floor is pretty much flat although the centre console does come out quite car so you could fit 3 in the back just. Legroom is decent for the size of car but because of the sloping roof the headroom isn’t even the best, but this is to be expected. You do get some air vents, USB C ports as well as an arm rest though. Let’s have a look at the boot.

Boot Size

So, opening the boot by either waving your foot under the car or an awkwardly placed boot switch, you are welcomed with 520 litres of space with the seats up. You do have a height adjustable boot floor to add more room, but it isn’t as practical because of the sloping roof. With the seats folded this extends to 1,480 litres.

Summary

So, the Peugeot E-3008. What exactly is this car. Personally, I think that this car could be much better than what it is. If it kept the same overall shape as the previous generation and gave it the new 308 interior, it would be a much better car. Don’t get me wrong though it isn’t a bad car, but it could be so much better. There will be one less rival for this car though in the future. That is the Vauxhall Grandland. That is because the new Grandland is going to be bigger than before based on the new E-5008. It won’t have 7 seats though, but we will have to wait and see what that is like when that comes out as that could be interesting.
