This is the new Volkswagen Golf R Facelift

The new Volkswagen Golf R has just been given a facelift to fit inline with the new Golf Facelift. This update brings more power to help keep it relevant in today's market.

Lets start with the engine and mechanicals first. Both the hatchback and the estate version have switched to an uprated version of the EA888 engine which is a 2 litre 4 cylinder petrol. This was only available in the special edition engines. This produces 329 bhp (up from 316 bhp) and the 0-62 time has been reduced from 4.8 seconds to 4.6 seconds. It still also has 4 wheel drive too. You can also opt for the Performance Pack which will lift the limited 155 mph top speed to 167 mph. It also adds other track focused modes including the Nordschleife setting.

There is also a launch version of the car called Black Edition. This gets the Performance Pack as standard as well as 19 inch Estoril Wheels, different Volkswagen and R logos, Black brake calipers and darkened Matrix LED Headlights.

To start with the overall design of the Golf R Facelift includes some new regular Golf facelift updates including the updated front and rear lights and an illuminated grill. Above these you get a unique front and Rear bumper that isn't based on any other Golf like before. This gives it a unique look which i quite like.

Moving inside and the changes are also very similar to the regular Golf facelift. We get the 12.9 inch display with MiB 4 which is a much better system. The materials and fit and finish is much better too. The only disadvantage though is that you do get the older steering wheel style with haptic controls. This is because they have the R mode button. Volkswagen have said they have tweaked it though to ensure that the controls require a more solid press to help reduce accidental inputs but we will have to wait and see if that is any better or not.

Prices of the Golf R Facelift haven't been revealed yet but we expect it to be more expensive over the pre facelift £42,500 model.
