As the new Volvo EX90 Electric SUV hits the roads, Volvo has given it's ICE counterpart a complete refresh to bring it in line with other new Volvo's
Based on the outgoing Volvo XC90 the new XC90 is only a heavy facelift. The front end style is a mixture of old and new with a new design to the headlights and 'Thor's Hammer' Daytime Running Lights. We also get a new minimalistic grill design with chrome slats similar to a BMW and the lower central air vent and side vents kind of mimic the new EX90. We also get a new more minimalistic bonnet too. The side profile hasn't changed but we do get some new colour and wheel options to again bring it in line with newer Volvos as well as a new look for the charging port on the Plug-in Hybrid models. Round the back and the taillights have stayed the same but have been slightly updated to look like the EX90 and so has the bumper.
Inside the new Volvo XC90 and we do get some updates. To start with the materials have been updated to be more eco friendly but also more premium. We also get a new redesigned centre console to be more useful and modern. We also get a bigger 11.2 inch central infotainment system that is based on the new EX90 version. It is still running the latest Android Automotive and is very easy to use. We also get upgraded ambient lighting and a new 360 degree camera system. Most of the other parts from the outgoing XC90 have stayed the same but that is no complaint as it was already premium enough and in some areas this is better as we get physical light controls for example as where as the EX90 Doesn't. A review on the Volvo EX90 will be coming out soon so keep an eye out for that.
There are also some updates to the XC90 to make it more refined (like it wasn't already refined enough). There is more acoustic foam on the A and B Pillars as well as an improved suspension setup. The engine range has also been given some improvements too but is mostly the same as the outgoing model starting with the B5 model. This uses a 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine which makes 247 bhp and is good enough for a 7.7 second 0-62 time. It can also return 33.2 mpg which for a petrol on this size of car is very good. There is also a B6 version which is turbocharged and supercharged giving it 295 bhp and a 6.7 second 0-62 time but the mpg is less on this model. Finally you can get the T8 Plug-in Hybrid which has the same 2.0 litre engine as the 295 bhp model but the combined power output has been increased to 449 bhp and reduces the 0-62 time to 5.4 seconds. It can also do 44 miles of electric only driving which is more than before.
The new Volvo XC90 Facelift will be available to order in the UK from October and prices will start at £63,790 for the hybrid version or £72,650 for the Plug in Hybrid version.
