The final Peugeot has been electrified. This is the new Peugeot E-408. Spot the differences.
With the discontinuation of the Peugeot 508 there was only one car left in the Peugeot lineup to be electrified. Well that one car was the 408 and Peugeot has finally revealed the E-408 which has surprised me in some areas.
So, to start with, the design has not changed hardly at all from the normal 408 and this is no surprise to be honest. the only noticeable changes are the new E badges. What does this mean then. Well you get the usual Peugeot look with fang LED Daytime running lights and a body coloured grill which makes this car look modern. Moving further round to the back and we notice its sleek coupe SUV profile with its cat ears up top and its sporty claw taillights.
Inside the changes are minimal too with new graphics for the electric mode like what you get on the E-308. Just like the E-308 and the regular 408 we get the usual i-Cockpit design with a 3 screen setup and the older style Peugeot steering wheel. Personally i do like this design better over the new E-3008. You do get some paddles on the small steering wheel though and this is the change the regenerative braking modes. This makes it easy to do on the move and when you are changing from motorway to city driving.
So, Whats actually different then. Well that will be the new Battery and motor powertrain. Not considering the Peugeot E-408 is based on the E-308 you would think it would get the same battery and motor options. Well not quite. Because the E-408 sits on a longer platform than the E-308 Peugeot has given the E-408 a bigger battery up from 54 kWh to 58.2 kWh. To go with this the motor has also been upgraded and now produces 210 bhp and 345 Nm of Torque over the E-308's 156 bhp and 270 Nm of Torque. However these figures are only in the Sport mode setting as the Normal and Eco modes are to extend the potential range although we expect the 0-62 time to be under 10 seconds. The range of the E-408 his around 281 miles on a single charge which is very good. This is 24 miles than the E-308. Charging the E-408 is better too as it can accepts speeds of 120 kW, 20 kW more than the E-308 allowing a 20-80% charge in about 30 minutes.
The new Peugeot E-408 will go on sale the end of this year with prices starting around £42,000 with a choice of Allure or GT trim levels. The Peugeot E-408 should arrive to our shores early next year. What do you think. Let me know on my Official Everything Cars and More Youtube Channel
